Nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) are among the most toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic sub-stances that have been detected in ambient air. Like PAHs, nitro-PAHs are primarily adsorbed on air particulate matter. They can be measured in the particulate fraction sampled at urban locations, typically in the 1 to pg/m3. The rapid population growth in large urban areas, has resulted in a precipitous increase in the consumption of fossil fuels, mainly by the transport sector, diesel vehicles are a significant source of air pollution by particulate matter emissions, damaging the population health, because of the size and composition of these particles, as they may contain carcinogenic organic compounds such as. Diesel-powered equipment is used frequently in the mining industry. They are energetically more efficient and emit lower quantities of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide than the gasoline equipment. However, diesel engines release more diesel particulate matter (DPM) during the combustion process which has been linked to harmful health effects. This study assessed the trends in DPM exposure. In this work, we developed a novel quantitative analysis method for detecting nitropolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) in PM samples with graphene as a matrix using MALDI-TOF MS. A good linearity was obtained for the typical four nitro-PAHs, namely 1-nitropyrene (1-NP), 2-nitrofluorene (2-NFL), 6-nitrochrysene (6-NC) and 9-nitroanthracene (9-NA) with the correlation coefficient.

(1μM) and collision-induced dissociation of selected ions revealed the presence of two strongly genotoxic nitro-PAH metabolites, namely phenanthrenenitro-1,2-dihydrodiol-3,4-epoxide (mass/charge [m/z] ) and dihydrodihydroxy acetylamino nitrophenanthrene (m/z ). These two metabolite peaks present only in the bile of fish exposed. As stated in the preface, this multi-author book was written in order to cover the more important aspects of the analytical, organic, and environmental chemistries of nitro-PAH (nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons). Abstract. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are not declining in Arctic air despite reductions in their global emissions. In Svalbard, the Longyearbyen coal-fired power plant is considered to be one of the major local sources of PAHs.

Power plant stack emissions and ambient air samples, collected simultaneously at 1 km (UNIS) and 6 km (Adventdalen) transect distance, were. The spatial variations of gas/particle partitioning for nPAHs and oPAHs among three different site categories were also investigated.

In general, the log K p were higher in the rural field area than those in the other two site categories (Fig. 2b). Significantly higher K p values of 3N-PHE, 9N-PHE and ATQ (p. It is important to establish an available analytical method for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrated PAHs (nitro-PAHs), oxygenated forms of PAHs (oxy-PAHs), and hydroxy-PAHs (OH-PAHs) in sediment samples due to the fact that they co-exist in various environmental mediates, particularly in sediment.

Nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) are a class of genotoxic environmental contaminants. We have long been interested in determining the mechanisms by which nitro-PAHs induce genotoxicity.

Although the metabolic activation of nitro-PAHs leading to toxicological activities has been well studied, the photo-induced activation of nitro-PAHs has seldom been reported.

Published. January 1, Author(s). Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are worldwide pollutants produced mainly during incomplete combustion and pyrolysis of organic substances.

PAH derivatives are components with hydrogen on the aromatic ring substituted by carbonyl- nitro- and hydroxyl-functional groups (N-PAH, O-PAH or OH-PAH), or a group of heterocyclic PAHs containing one sulfur atom in place of a carbon. Nitro compounds are organic compounds that contain one or more nitro functional groups (−N O 2).The nitro group is one of the most common explosophores (functional group that makes a compound explosive) used globally.

The nitro group is also strongly e of this property, C−H bonds alpha (adjacent) to the nitro group can be acidic.Try the new Google Books.
